Put Students on Track for GED Success

The English Center's GED Peer Mentors help students to find ways to overcome some of the barriers to earning their Florida High School Diploma (GED).  Their role is to counsel, coach, facilitate, and encourage ABE and GED students in achieving their educational goals.  They assist students in transitioning into the GED program by providing information and resources about the various options GED students have available to them in our school.  They also help students who have earned their GED dipoma to transition into employment or higher education.  If you are a GED student or want to become a GED student, please come and talk to Enrique, Magda, or Dagiana and let them be your friend and guide on your jouney toward earning your GED.  

The GED Peer Mentors are located in the Student Services office (# 12) and are here to assist ABE/GED students during the following extended hours:

Mondays 8:30 am- 8:00 pm
Tuesdays 10:00 am-8:00 pm

Wednesdays 8:30 am- 8:00 pm
Thursdays 8:30 am- 8:00 pm
Fridays 9:00 am- 2:00 pm
Saturdays 8:30 am- 2:00 pm

Roseanne Brown, GED Preparation and Citizenship student with TLC Online at The English Center, has achieved two dreams in one month. She received her Florida High School Diploma after passing the GED exam and also received her United States Certificate of Naturalization after passing her citizenship exam and interview.  In addition to going to school, Roseane works two jobs.  She is originally from Brazil and now plans to go to college and major in Business Administration.  Roseane's hard work and perseverance have been the key factors in achieving her goals.  Roseane's online teachers are Adrienne Weinstein (GED Preparation) and Ivette Martell (Citizenship Preparation).  We wish Roseane the best of luck in continuing to pursue her dreams.

Congratulations to Thaura Abdalla
Thaura Abdalla - GED Graduate

Thaura is from Mombasa, Kenya and came to the United States in 2004.  She is a wife and mother of four and has studied for her GED exam by utilizing both online GED preparation classes and classroom classes here at The English Center.  Thaura wants to become an LPN and intends to attend Miami-Dade College's nursing program as soon as possible.

Elizabeth Valladares and Jose Raudales both recently earned their Florida High School Diploma after successfully passing the GED exam.  Mr. Raudales is now planning on getting a better job and Ms. Valladares is planning to attend Miami Dade College.  They are both students at TLC Online's Little Havana One-Stop Center GED Outreach Program.  Their GED teacher is Gilma Ones.

Miguel Alvarez recently received his Florida High School Diploma after passing the GED exam.  Miguel is originaly from Peru and is a student of Ms. Adrienne Weinstein's online GED Preparation course.  Miguel now plans to attend college.
